Graduate School on Configuration Spaces (Ben Knudsen)

Configuration spaces have been a central concern in topology and many other areas for 60 years and counting. The aim of these lectures is to give an overview of some of the highlights of this study, emphasizing the interplay between questions drawn from bread-and-butter topology and the emergent algebraic and homotopical structures encountered in answering them. Specific topics may include the Fadell–Neuwirth fibrations and the braid groups; Fred Cohen's calculations of the (co)homology of Euclidean configuration spaces; twisted commutative algebras and stability phenomena; operads and factorization homology; and configuration spaces of graphs.

Description

This intensive graduate school will cover topics central to the Workshop on Interactions between Group Theory and Homotopy Theory the following week. This school is designed to give graduate students and early career researchers in related fields a better understanding of each subject, thus enabling the participants to better engage in the subsequent workshop.
