	Thematic Program on Mathematical Oncology July-December, 2024 Dr. Seemadri Subhadarshini Seemadri received her PhD from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and works on multi-scale mathematical models, employing integrated data-driven multi-omics strategies and structural biophysics techniques for a mechanistic understanding of cancer development and progression.
	Thematic Program on Geometric Constraint Systems, Framework Rigidity, and Distance Geometry January-June, 2021 Dr. Daniel Bernstein Daniel received his PhD from North Carolina State University and works on algebraic statistics, applied algebraic geometry, causal inference, matrix completion, rigidity theory, tropical geometry, phylogenetics, contingency tables, convex and discrete geometry.
	Thematic Program on Emerging Challenges in Mathematical Biology January-June, 2018 Dr. Matthias Becher Matthias received his PhD in Honeybee Ecology from the University of Halle-Wittenberg, Germany.
	Thematic Program on Geometric Analysis July-December, 2017 Dr. Mohammad Najafi Ivaki Mohammad received his PhD from Concordia University. He is now a Postdoctoral Fellow at Institut für Diskrete Mathematik und Geometrie, Vienna University of Technology, Austria.
	Thematic Program on Combinatorial Algebraic Geometry July-December, 2016 Dr. Kristin Shaw Kristin received her PhD from Université de Genève. She is currently the Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institut für Mathematik der Technischen Universität Berlin .
	Thematic Program on Multiscale Scientific Computing: From Quantum Physics and Chemistry to Material Science and Fluid Mechanics January-June, 2016 Dr. Chunmei Su Chunmei recieved her PhD from Peking University. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Beijing Computational Science Research Center.
	Thematic Program on Statistical Inference, Learning, and Models for Big Data January-June, 2015 Dr. Roger Grosse Roger received his PhD at MIT, studying under Bill Freeman and Josh Tenenbaum. After the thematic program, he continued his fellowship at the University of Toronto.
	Thematic Program on Calabi-Yau Varieties: Arithmetic, Geometry and Physics July-December, 2013 Dr. Simon Rose Simon received his PhD from the University of British Columbia with advisor Jim Bryan. After the thematic program, he continued the fellowship at Queen's University in Kingston.
	Winter/Spring 2013 Thematic Program on Torsors, Nonassociative Algebras and Cohomological Invariants Dr. Anastasia Stavrova Stavrova received her PhD in Mathematics from St. Petersburg State University (Russia) in 2009.
	Fall 2012 Thematic Program on Forcing and its Application Dr. Miguel Ángel Mota Mota received his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Barcelona in 2009. After the thematic program, he continued his fellowship at the University of Toronto.
	2012 (Winter/Spring) Thematic Program on Galois Representations Dr. Shuichiro Takeda Takeda received his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006. After the fellowship, he accpeted a position as an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri.
	2011 (Fall) Thematic Program on Discrete Geometry and Applications Dr. Daniel Pellicer Pellicer received his PhD in Mathematics from theUniversidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 2007.
	(Winter) Thematic Program on Dynamics and Transport in Disordered Systems Dr. Alex Grigo Grigo received his PhD in Mathematics from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2009. After the fellowship, he accepted a position at the University of Oklahoma.
	2010 (Fall) Thematic Program on Asymptotic Geometric Analysis Dr. David Alonso Alonso received his PhD in Mathematics from the Universidad de Zaragoza. After the thematic program, he accepted a position at the University of Alberta.
	2010 (Winter/Spring) Thematic Program on Quantitative Finance: Foundations and Applications Dr. Kyoung-Kuk (Ken) Kim Kim received his Ph.D in Mathematics from Columbia University in 2008. After the fellowship, he accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in the Departmentof Industrial and Systems Engineering at KAIST.
	2009(Fall ) Thematic Program on Foundations of Computational Mathematics Dr. Pang Chin How Jeffrey Jeffrey received his PhD in Mathematics from Cornell University in 2009. After the fellowship, He accepted a position as an Applied Math Instructor at MIT.
	2009(Winter/Spring) Thematic Program on o-minimal Structures and Real Analytic Geometry Dr. Olivier Le Gal Olivier received his PhD. in Mathematics from Rennes I in 2006.
	2008 (Fall) Thematic Program on Arithmetic Geometry, Hyperbolic Geometry and Related Topic Dr. Matthew Dulock Matthew received his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Houston in 2008. After the fellowship, he accepted a position as a Lecturer at the University of North Texas.
	Winter/Spring 2008 Thematic Program on New Trends in Harmonic Analysis Dr. Brett Wick Brett received his PhD in 2005 from Brown University. After the fellowship, he accepted a position as an Assistant Professor at Georgia Institute of Technology.
	Fall 2007 Thematic Program on Operator Algebras Dr. Takeshi Katsura Takeshi received his PhD in 2003 from the University of Tokyo. After the fellowship, he accepted a position at Keio University.
	Winter/Spring 2007 Thematic Program on Geometric Applications of Homotopy Theory Dr. Aaron Lauda Aaron received his PhD (mathematics) in 2006 from Cambridge University. After the fellowship, he accepted a position as an Assistant Professor at Columbia University.
	Fall 2006 Thematic Program in Cryptography Dr. Nicolas Thériault Nicolas received his PhD (mathematics) in 2003 from the University of Toronto. After the fellowship, he accepted a position at the Universidad de Talca in Chile.
	Spring 2006, Thematic Program on Holomorphic Dynamics, Laminations, and Hyperbolic Geometry Fall 2005, Renormalization and Universality in Mathematics and Mathematical Physics Dr. Roland Roeder Roland received a Docteur de Mathematiques from the Universite de Provence, Aix-Marseille in 2004 and a second Ph.D. (mathematics) in 2005 from Cornell University. After the fellowship, he accepted a position as an Assistant Professor at IUPUI in Indiana.
	2004-05 T hematic Program on The Geometry of String Theory Dr. Richard Paul Horja Richard Paul received his PhD (mathematics) in 1999 from Duke University. After the fellowship, he accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Oklahoma State University.
	2003-04 Thematic Program on Partial Differential Equations Dr. Andrei Biryuk Andrei received his PhD in 2000 from Heriot-Watt University. After the fellowship, he accepted a position as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Mathematics at Instituto Superior Técnico in Portugal.
	2003 Thematic Program on Automorphic Forms Dr. Jens Funke Jens received his PhD (mathematics) in 1999 from the University of Maryland. Jens began his postdoctoral fellowship at Fields in the Fall of 2002 and stayed here until the end thematic program. After the fellowship, he accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in Mathematical Sciences at New Mexico State University and subsequently at the University of Durham.
	2001-02 T hematic Year on Numerical and Computational Challenges in Science and Engineering Dr. Greg Lewis Greg received his PhD from the University of British Columbia in 2000. After the fellowship, he accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
	2001-02 Thematic Year on Numerical and Computational Challenges in Science and Engineering Dr. Alf Gerisch Alf received his PhD from the University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany). After the fellowship, he accepted a position as at the Academic Council at Technische Universität Darmstadt in Germany.
	Winter/Spring 2001, Symplectic Topology, Geometry, and Gauge Theory Program Fall 2000, I nfinite Dimensional Lie Theory and its Applications Dr. Miguel Abreu Miguel received his PhD from Stanford University in 1996. After the fellowship, he accepted a position at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Portugal.
	1999- 2000 Special Year on Graph Theory and Combinatorial Optimization Dr. Bertrand Guenin Bertrand received his PhD from Tepper School of Business (formerly GSIA) and Carnegie Mellon University in 1998. After the fellowship, he accepted a position in the Department of Combinatorics & Optimization at the University of Waterloo.
	1999- 2000, Special Year on Graph Theory and Combinatorial Optimization Dr. Petr Hlinený Petr received two PhD s in mathematics from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Charles University in 1999 and 2000 respectively. After the fellowship, he accepted a position in Computer science at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic.
	1998-99, Thematic Program in Probability and Its Applications Dr. Siva Athreya Siva received his PhD (mathematics) at the University of Washington. After the fellowship, he accepted a position in the Stat math Unit at the Indian Statistical Institute in Bangalore.
	1996-97 Thematic Program on Algebraic Model Theory Dr. Byunghan Kim Byunghan received his PhD from the University of Notre Dame in 1996. After the fellowship, he accepted a position at Yonsei University in South Korea.
	1995-96, Thematic Program on Homotopy Theory Dr. Wojciech Chachólski Wojciech received his PhD from the University of Notre Dame in 1995. After the fellowship, he accepted a position at KTH Matematik in Sweden.

About Jerry Marsden

Marsden, along with Bill Shadwick, Carl Riehm, and Stephen Halperin, were the original group who founded the Fields Institute in 1987 with limited financial resources. Jerry, along with Bill and Peter Nicholson (who was an early chairman of the board) were the guiding forces who really brought the Fields Institute into being. All three played critical roles - Jerry gave Fields mathematical prestige, Peter brought political clout and some crucial guidance, and Bill threw his entrepreneurial talents completely into the enterprise.

Jerry was a Professor of Control and Dynamical Systems at the California Institute of Technology. Sadly, he passed away on September 21, 2010 at the age of 68.
