FYMSiC (First Year Math and Stats in Canada) 2026 Conference ‘’University Mathematics and Statistics Courses Under the Microscope“ will take place in person at McMaster University, May 8-10, 2026. The keynote address will be given by Prof. Carl Wieman, a Nobel Prize physicist, who holds a joint appointment as Professor of Physics and Professor in the Stanford Graduate School of Education at Stanford. Ongoing Programs of Interest
Fields Math Circles open to students in grades 9 - 12 who are interested in investigating mathematics challenges and puzzles in a collaborative and guided setting. Math Circles runs on Saturdays from 2 – 4pm at the Fields Institute (222 College Street, Toronto) and is free to join. Register at https://fieldsacademy.ca/eep/ (scroll down to Fields Math Circles). Ask a Mathematician: these virtual visits bring math experts into grade 4 - 10 classrooms where students get to explore math concepts not typically taught in school (like Graph Theory, Fractals, Cryptography, and more) and learn about what it’s like to be a mathematician. Math in Literacy: our newest program where we work with authors and illustrators of children’s picture books, from communities typically underrepresented in mathematics, and provide math and science activities aimed at K – 6 teachers.
